Construction begins on the new Garfield Street Parking Garage
It's a sign of success when an attraction runs short of spaces
for visitors to park their cars in. So what's the most cost effective and
logical solution to provide additional parking in a limited area?
Build upwards with a parking garage.
Construction's begun on the parking garage- you just can't miss that big
ol' crane towering over most everything in the area.
With the start of this thing's construction, one era ends and another begins.
Balance the loss of not seeing sunsets from the Courts and being in the shadow
of the garage- against having more parking, new pro-shop digs, an observation
deck and more. This is what our children and theirs will inherit. I guess when
all the other improvements to the Beach are complete all will balance
out. I, for one, will miss my sunsets.
I'll be taking pictures of the build the whole time to document the
process.

Historic Garfield Street courts. I'm wondering if our Courts have also been
slated for improvements somewhere down the line... gotta ask.

Re: Construction of the new Garfield Street Parking
Garage
Dear Sir or Madam.
Construction of a new five-level parking garage
will begin in the next several weeks at the existing pay lot at Garfield
Street and A1A
With the new garage, we will also begin
construction of a community center as well as renovation of Charnow
Park. The estimated duration of the project will be approximately one
year. During this time, the Garfield Street’s paddle ball courts will
remain open.
Although temporary fencing will be erected to
secure the construction site, access will be maintained for all existing
residences, businesses and facilities.
We apologize for any inconveniences that may be
created, and we will attempt to minimize any disruption to normal
activities. We believe this project will be a welcome addition to the
area- alleviating parking problems as well as enhancing existing
facilities.
Thank for your understanding and cooperation
Sincerely,
Mike Finn
