One Wall Outdoor Paddleball

Outdoors Paddleball? 
Just what is one wall outdoor paddleball? To quote the WOR, it's- "Paddleball with a tan." 
Traditionally, it's played against one wall with a wooden paddle and a Wilson regular duty tennis ball. This version of paddleball has been played since the 1930's in its South Florida hotbed at the Historic Courts on Garfield Street in Hollywood, Florida. As of late, graphite paddles have been allowed for tournament action- but to this day, some of the very best players still bring their "old school"  wooden paddles.  Click Rules Page for rules.

February, 2004 saw the first event sanctioned by the NPA- "The Challenge" which pitted players from the Legends of Racquetball Tour such as Marty Hogan, Sudsy Monchik, Cliff Swain and Ruben Gonzales, 4 Wall Paddleball greats such as Mike "Wiz Whack-it" Wisnewski, Andy Mitchell and Chris Crowther, black-ball paddleball and handball great, NY's # 1Robert Sostre, and the Garfield Street Historic Courts' very best, "The Locals". "Local" Pat Cassidy won the finals and the very first National One Wall Outdoor Paddleball Championship tournament. 

March, 2005 saw the 75th year of One Wall Outdoor Paddleball on the Historic Garfield Street Paddleball Courts and the Garfield Street All-Stars Tournament. The final pitted Tri Pircalabu in a thrilling finals match against the always dangerous Robert Sostre. Tri took the win and the National One Wall Outdoor Paddleball Championship title.

November 5th and 6th, 2005 saw the WOOOW!! Doubles tournament take place on the Historic Courts. 29 teams played through Saturday leading to the semi's and finals on Sunday. In the finals, fans were treated to 3 games of intense action and amazin' saves- plus an exhibition match all for over $15,000 in prize money.

January 2006 and teams from Miami, Orlando, Miami and NYC met for the WOOOW!! II Doubles tournament on the Historic Courts to battle it out for a $12,000 total purse in the first of 3 qualifying tournaments. Top teams qualified for the WOOOW!! Finals in December 2006.  Let's see some NPA teams qualifying in March!

2006 may be the year for Outdoors Paddleball to "catch on" nation-wide. Juan Guerra and the CPQ International Handball and Paddleball Association have promised to sponsor 3 Qualifying and one Final tournament- These will be big money events which may even include a new car as an additional prize for the Final invitational. FYI, Juan and CPQ just finished a series of handball tournament sponsorships along a similar format with a Finals with $25,000 in prizes. NPA players, practice up! March 25-26, 2006- CPQ International Cup Qualifying Tournament- (WOOOW!!- World Outdoor Open One Wall Doubles Paddleball Tournament.) at the Historic Courts on Garfield Street in Hollywood, FL. Awesome one-wall action as teams from New York, Miami, Orlando and Hollywood battled for the big prizes! Click for big coverage!

January 14^th & 15^th, 2006- WOOOW!! II Tournament- World Outdoor Open One Wall Doubles Paddleball Tournament II- Teams from Miami, Hollywood, and NYC squared off to do battle on the Historic Courts!
